A Soldier’s Voice is intended to shed light on previously ignored matters regarding American troops serving in Afghanistan. The stories presented here are provided by U.S. troops who have chosen to use A Soldiers Voice to speak their truth. All names are kept confidential, unless otherwise requested.
I am currently seeking submissions from American troops serving in Afghanistan. I want to hear your story. I want to share it with others and let the American public get a good look at what you are doing for us. I want your Voice to be heard.
You see, this past summer I met a young man who changed my life. I was one of those complacent people who didn’t have a clue what YOU were dealing with. Talking with “J” opened my eyes to the reality of war and inspired me to do something. Thing is, I didn’t know what. After all, I’m just a freelance writer / blogger who spends way too much time on the Internet.
J recently made a post on a forum, expressing his frustration over the lack of true media coverage for troops serving in Afghanistan. I interviewed J and am currently working on an article for major distribution. His answers inspired me to take action on your behalf. That is, if you will allow me to do so.
I’m new at this type of thing, so ask you to bear with me as I sort out any issues. I’m not some big name reporter, but I do have connections. I’ve been online for nearly 8 years and I am confident we can get the word out.
What I want from you is for you to speak your truth. What do you want us to know? What can we do to better serve you? What are the positive sides of being in Afghanistan? What changes would you like to see?
The only requirements for submission are:
- You must be currently serving in the United States Armed Forces.
- You must either currently be stationed in Afghanistan or served a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
- You are a parent, sibling, spouse of a soldier who served in Afghanistan and gave the ultimate sacrifice. Your story will be featured on the Memorial Wall section.
Stories can be submitted either in the body of an email or as a document using .doc, .txt or .rtf format. Editing will only be done if the content contains exceptionally graphic language that would be offensive to younger readers. It is not my desire to alter your story; however, if I feel editing is necessary, I will do my best to keep it to a minimum.
All stories will be kept anonymous unless you specifically request your name to be included. I am not familiar with military laws regarding using soldiers names or other identifying features. Therefore, until I receive clarification on this, I will not include names on any stories. This is for your protection and safety.
You can submit as many stories as you desire. You can also submit photos if desired. Please do not submit photos of violence, corpses or other disturbing images as they will not be posted here.
All submissions should be sent to me via this email link. Stories and photos will be posted within 5 days of submission. Questions and comments can be directed to me via email. I will respond as quickly as possible.
Thank you for taking time to share your story with the American public. Thank you for protecting us and keeping us from harm. Thank you for being brave.
